Low back pain is one of the most common things we see here at Taunton Health and is one of the most common things an osteopath or chiropractor will see.
It’s also one of the most common reasons for people to have time off work.
One thing that the majority of people say when they come in to see us with low back pain is that they think it’s just tight muscles and it needs a massage.
The question is though…why are the muscles tight?
Yes some of the discomfort you might be experiencing could be coming from muscles that are tight. However muscles are not naughty. They’re not tightening up just for the sake of it.
They are tightening up because they are being told to by your nerves which come from your spine.
It’s easy to understand that just taking pain medication isn’t fixing the underlying cause of the problem, in the same way that simply rubbing a tight muscle clearly isn’t fixing the underlying cause either.
If you want to get out of pain long term then you need to find and correct the underlying cause of the problem.
